2006–2007
After completing a revamp of the materials for the FireWise programme (years 7 and 8), the NZ Fire Service contracted Educating NZ to develop and design two CD-ROMs and a short teachers’ guide. The redevelopment was designed to improve up-take of the programme in schools, and amongst firefighters, to a standard acceptable to the NZ Fire Service.
The teachers’ CD-ROM includes unit plans, links to the New Zealand curriculum, activities, fact and resource sheets and media clips from real fires. The students’ CD-ROM contains interactive games, fact sheets, media clips and quizzes.
The resource was developed in partnership with teachers, students, fire safety experts and frontline firefighters.
